Chernobyl - A Nuclear Wasteland 30 Years After The Catastrophe


On 26 April 1986, the meltdown of Reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant led to the worst civilian nuclear accident in history.
Poisonous radiation spewed from the plant into the surrounding landscape, contaminating the area and destroying the lives of the citizens.
Authorities evacuated approximately 43,000 people from Pripyat in the days following the disaster, and the city, with its high-rise apartment buildings, hospital, shops, schools, restaurants, cultural center and sports facilities, has remained a ghost town ever since.

Ninety-six football fans who died as a result of a crush in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster were unlawfully killed, the inquests have concluded.
The jury found match commander Ch Supt David Duckenfield was "responsible for manslaughter by gross negligence" due to a breach of his duty of care.

Reps Ask Police To Investigate Alleged Herdsmen Attack In Enugu



The House of Representatives has mandated the Inspector General of Police to immediately conduct a thorough investigation into the attack on a community in Enugu State by unknown herdsmen.
At least 20 persons were allegedly killed in Ukpabi Nimbo, an agrarian community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State while property worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
In a motion that enjoyed popular support, the House said the Police Chief must ensure the perpetrators were brought to justice.
The House is also inviting the Director General of the Department of State Services to appear before the House to brief them on the rising cases of unidentified herdsmen causing mayhem in different states of the country.

Pro-Saraki Supporters Stage Counter Protest Tagged ‘Save Our National Assembly’


One group, ‘OccupyNASS’, had taken over the main entrance of the national assembly before another group, ‘Save Our National Assembly’, brought a counter-protest to the venue.
While OccupyNASS made critical demands on the national assembly, Save Our National Assembly was in solidarity with Bukola Saraki, president of the senate, and Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the federal house of representatives.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy President of the Senate, has called for the collapse of the 36 states of the federation into six geopolitical zones as part of a drastic restructuring of the country’s federation failing which the country’s development would continually be hindered.
