Suspected kidnappers in the wee hours of Monday abducted the Imo State Correspondent of the Channels Television, Mr Temitope Kuteyi, at his Egbeada Federal Housing Unit in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
A source in the building told newsmen that the kidnappers, numbering over eight gained entrance into the compound by scaling the fence and held Kuteyi at gunpoint before proceeding to his apartment.
The incident occurred at about 3am when the armed hoodlums broke in-to one of the apartments but the occupant, who was the reporter’s neighbour escaped through the backdoor of his room.
Although, the source said he was not sure who the target of the kidnap-pers was but said that they charged at Kuteyi’s apartment breaking down his door and ordering him to follow them.
Kuteyi was said to have been bundled into his neighbour’s car and driven away while some of his abductors who escorted them jumped the fence to follow them.
According to the source, one of the kidnappers forgot his pump action gun on top of the fence.
“He was shocked when they entered his room and the only thing I re-membered him saying was ‘Jesus, Jesus’. They took him away with his neighbour’s car,” the source said.
Meanwhile, The AUTHORITY reliably gathered from the negotiator of the Channels TV reporter that his abductors have already demanded a ransom of N15 million for the release of the reporter.
Although, the state Police Commissioner, Taiwo Lakanu and his Director of State Security (DSS) counterpart who have been intimated of the incident are yet to make official statements, but the CP it was gathered has assured that those behind the act would be brought to book as his men have already been detailed to save the situation.
On its own part, the Imo State Government has described the act as a blackmail aimed at discrediting the good reports of the state government reducing crime to its barest minimum.
